Neil Downie is an industrial scientist in his day job in England. He devotes his weekends to exploring the great ideas of science and the most important phenomena of nature. He designs experiments that speak to your mind and senses. He has written four books that make science clear, thrilling, and poetic.
Each day: construct one of Downie’s cleverest experiments in a form fun to test here and at home. Waves, vibrations, funky vehicles, bubbles and boats. Downie is a master of them all. Batteries included.
Each day: work with a small group to master challenges that are new to us but that seem to promise exciting results. Some will be dramatic. Some just interesting. Some stubborn. Who knows? That’s the way of science.
Then work with a group over several days to construct one of Downie’s experiments that is too large, too wacky, or too messy to try at home. A 20’ hovercraft track, a water rocket launcher, a giant putt-put boat, a vacuum railway, a tent suspended by air.. All fun to share on Friday, then take apart.
A week of practicing the art of experimenting.
