Elements of Jewelry

Jewelry is an art form. Bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, hairpins, and crowns all adorn their wearers, male and female. They may also announce status, lineage, or rank.

Jewelry is also an investment. Before there were banks and bonds, families collected precious metals, minerals and beads as a dowry, a gift of wealth that would help their children establish their families.

Learn to refine, shape, polish, connect and combine precious elements to make rings, bracelets, pins and necklaces. Learn the chemistry of metals: purity, workability, origins and scarcity. Experiment with silver, aluminum. copper, tin and iron. Bend, cast, hammer and cut metals. Polish minerals. Create small, beautiful treasuries through this magical interplay of art and chemistry.

There will be no class July 4th.
