Chain Reactions: Rube Goldberg

When the cartoonist Rube Goldberg died 43 years ago, he knew that his deliberately impractical machine had inspired artistic followers in England (Heath Robinson), Denmark (Storm P), Spain, Turkey and India. Rube Goldberg didn't know that YouTube would be invented to encourage thousands of inventors to construct and record thousands of outrageous mechanical relays that really work (mostly). And now yours.

Construct a micro Rube Goldberg relay: 10 artful relay contraptions in a box: Parrot (Goldberg's favorite) included. Then join a team to construct a 15 foot segment of a relay that will be 120 feet long (at least). The big relay will incorporate the best of the mechanisms we have learned from Neil Downie, plus your inventions and art work. The ultimate chain reaction will of course end up on YouTube.
